Common Dental Emergencies We Treat

When pain strikes, we stand ready. Our team understands that dental emergencies demand immediate, expert intervention.

Severe Toothache or Swelling

Persistent or intense pain could signal an infection that needs immediate attention.

Chipped, Fractured, or Broken Teeth

Prompt care is crucial to relieve pain and prevent further damage.

Knocked-Out Tooth (Avulsion)

A time-sensitive emergency — handle the tooth by the crown (not the root), place it in milk, and seek care immediately.

Dental Abscesses

Dangerous infections require immediate professional care to prevent serious complications.

Lost Crown or Filling

Broken crowns, lost fillings, and damaged bridges get immediate professional attention.

Surgical Emergencies

We treat abscesses, soft tissue injuries, and implant-related complications (such as peri-implantitis).

The Surgical Advantage in Emergency Care

When a dental emergency is complex or severe, having a specialist like Dr. Rafik Dib — a Periodontist and surgical expert — can make all the difference in protecting your oral health and ensuring the best possible outcome.

The AVA Dental Difference

Complex Extractions: Severe infections and deeply impacted teeth often require surgical tooth extraction. As a highly trained Periodontist, Dr. Rafik Dib performs these procedures safely and precisely, minimizing trauma and promoting faster recovery.

Infection Management: Advanced expertise in diagnosing and treating dental abscesses and deep jawbone or gum infections ensures rapid control of the problem before it spreads.

Advanced Diagnostics: In-house 3D CBCT imaging allows Dr. Rafik Dib to quickly detect bone loss, root fractures, or hidden complications — enabling immediate, targeted treatment planning.

Immediate Pain Relief: Emergency care is designed for patient comfort. With the use of local anesthesia and IV sedation (when needed), treatment is both effective and stress-free.

What to Do Until You Arrive (First Aid)

If you’re experiencing a dental emergency, follow these simple steps before you reach our office to help protect your teeth and reduce discomfort:

For Pain: Take an over-the-counter pain reliever, but do not place aspirin directly on your gums or tooth — it can cause tissue irritation or burns.

For Swelling: Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek to help reduce swelling and ease pain.

For a Knocked-Out Tooth: Gently rinse the tooth without scrubbing it. If possible, place it back into the socket. If that’s not possible, keep it moist by storing it in milk or a saline solution. Call our office immediately.

What counts as a dental emergency?

Severe tooth pain, swelling, a knocked-out tooth, bleeding that doesn’t stop, broken teeth, or anything causing significant discomfort should be treated as an emergency.

Can I be seen the same day?

Yes. We reserve time in our schedule for emergencies to make sure you get care quickly.

Do you extract teeth the same day?

Yes, AVA Dental, we do our best to see emergency patients the same day.
In some cases, antibiotics for 5–7 days may be needed to reduce swelling before the extraction.

What if I need an implant?

We’ll plan it at the same time as the extraction or after the extraction.

How do I manage pain until I get to the office?

The best over-the-counter pain relief (if no allergies):
Alternate between Ibuprofen (Advil) 600 mg (three 200 mg tablets) and Acetaminophen (Tylenol) 500 mg every 3–4 hours.

Will I need X-rays during my emergency visit?

Usually, yes. X-rays help us quickly identify the problem and provide the right treatment.

Do I need to call ahead or just come in?

Call us right away so we can prepare for your arrival and make sure you’re seen as quickly as possible.
