Peri-implantitis Treatment
Advanced non-surgical and surgical solutions to treat infection around your implants. Specialist care provided by Periodontist Dr. Rafik Dib to protect your investment.
What Is Peri-implantitis?
Peri-implantitis is a progressive, infectious condition similar to gum disease (periodontitis), but it specifically affects the tissues surrounding a dental implant. The infection causes inflammation in the gums and leads to bone loss around the implant — putting the stability of the implant at risk.
Warning Signs to Watch For:
Bleeding or red, inflamed gums around the implant
Pus, discharge, or swelling near the implant
Pain or tenderness when biting or chewing
The implant feels loose, wobbly, or unstable
Why It Matters:
If left untreated, peri-implantitis continues to destroy the supporting bone, which can ultimately result in complete implant failure and loss. Early diagnosis and intervention are essential to saving your implant and protecting your oral health.
Benefit: Saves your implant and restores health to the surrounding bone and gums.

Why Trust Dr. Rafik Dib for Peri-implantitis Treatment?
When it comes to treating peri-implantitis, expertise matters. Because this condition affects both the gums and the bone around a dental implant, it often requires advanced training and techniques that go beyond the scope of general dentistry.
Dual Expertise
Dr. Rafik Dib is both a Periodontist (gum and bone specialist) and an Implantologist. This dual specialization means he understands the full scope of peri-implant disease — from the surgical placement of the implant to diagnosing and treating the infection that threatens it.
Advanced Diagnostics
Using state-of-the-art tools and 3D CBCT imaging, Dr. Rafik Dib can precisely measure bone loss and assess the extent of infection around the implant, ensuring a targeted and effective treatment plan.
Surgical Intervention Expertise
Advanced peri-implantitis treatment often requires complex surgical care to clean infected implant surfaces and regenerate lost bone. Dr. Rafik Dib’s training in bone grafting, guided regeneration, and implant repair makes him uniquely qualified to restore stability and save your implant.

Treatment Options for Saving Your Implant
At AVA Dental Implants Periodontics, we offers a full spectrum of peri-implantitis treatments — from early-stage therapies to advanced surgical solutions — all personalized to the severity of your condition and designed to save your implant whenever possible.
Non-Surgical Therapy (Early Stage):
1. Deep Cleaning & Debridement
If peri-implantitis is caught early, non-surgical therapy can often stop the progression of the disease. Using specialized instruments, Dr. Rafik Dib thoroughly cleans the infected areas below the gumline and removes bacterial buildup from the implant surface. Localized antibiotics may also be applied to eliminate infection and promote healing.
Surgical Therapy (Advanced Stage):
1. Pocket Reduction Surgery
When the infection extends deeper, surgical access is necessary. Dr. Rafik Dib carefully opens the gum tissue to thoroughly clean the implant surface and infected bone, reducing the pocket depth and allowing the gums to reattach to a healthier foundation.
2. Implant Surface Decontamination
Advanced decontamination techniques — such as chemical agents, laser therapy, or mechanical cleaning — are used to detoxify the implant surface. This helps eliminate harmful bacteria and create a biologically stable environment for healing.
3. Bone Regeneration
If bone loss has occurred, Dr. Rafik Dib can use advanced regenerative procedures such as bone grafting and membrane placement to rebuild lost bone structure around the implant. This strengthens the foundation and improves the chances of saving the implant.
4. Explant & Replacement (The Last Resort)
In severe cases where bone loss is too advanced, removal of the failing implant may be necessary. Dr. Rafik Dib can safely remove the compromised implant, regenerate the site, and place a new, healthy implant — restoring both function and aesthetics.
